Lamed

Lamed is one of the 12 Simple Letters: Time.

It is the twelfth letter of the Hebrew Alphabet. Its numerical value is 30.

Lamed corresponds to the seventh diagonal path of the Tree of Life, the path which connects Hod to Yesod.

Sepher Yetzirah says about Lamed: “He made the letter Lamed king over touch, and He bound a crown to it, and He combined one with another, and with them He formed Libra in the Universe, Tishrei in the Year, and the gallbladder in the Soul male and female.

Lamed corresponds to the Astrological Sign of Libra.

Lamed is the only letter of the Hebrew Alphabet that goes up. The Zohar says that “The letter Lamed has the form of a tower rising up in the air.”.

Lamed is the Jacob’s Ladder: the Ladder to Heaven.

It is the symbol of self surpassing, the surpass of our limits. It implies strength of character and willpower.

Lamed means “to learn” and “to teach” (from the verb Lamad, למד, that has the same numerical value of the word Lamed, למד).

Lamed is teaching thanks to the acquisition of Knowledge.

30 is the value for the Israeli Tribe of Judah, the one corresponding to the Zodiac Sign of Aries. Kabbalah says that “learning” is the connection between the Tetragrammaton and the Tribe of Judah.

30 means also Yiheh (יהיה, meaning “he/she will be“), a promise to reveal all the potential of the personality.
